US forces struck a Houthi command and control facility in Yemen on Monday in response to ongoing attacks on commercial and military vessels transiting the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
“On Dec. 16 Yemen time, US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a precision airstrike against a key command and control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis within Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen,” CENTCOM announced.
“The targeted facility was a hub for coordinating Houthi operations, such as attacks against US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.”
The strike was carried out “to protect US and coalition personnel, regional partners, and international shipping,” CENTCOM added.
Shrapnel Hits Jerusalem Home After Yemeni Houthis’ Ballistic Missile Interception
The strike came as government and military leaders also mull plans for an Israeli strike against the Houthis, who have continued launch combat drones and ballistic missiles at civilian targets in the Jewish State.
A home in the northern Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina was struck by shrapnel on Monday after Israel’s long-range Arrow aerial defense system intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis. Shrapnel from the interception also landed in the Jewish community of Leshem, in Samaria.
The attack was aimed at central Israel, with Red Alert sirens triggered in Tel Aviv, Rishon Lezion, Herzliya and elsewhere in the Dan region. Five people were injured while racing for cover.
