Senior Palestinian Authority official Jibril Rajoub reiterated in a recent interview that the Ramallah government clearly supports the murder of Israelis as a legitimate and welcome tool of “resistance” against the Jewish State — but only under its own control.
Note: The Biden Administration has repeatedly underlined its full support for Palestinian Authority government control over Gaza on “the day after” Israel completes the current war against the enclave’s ruling Hamas terrorist organization. Following is an explanation of how that might — not — work.
“Anyone who wants to turn their weapons against Israel, we are ready for that, but only in coordination with us,” Rajoub told the interviewer.
The former head of the PA’s Preventive Security Force emphasized the official government support for “armed resistance” – but only on condition that all acts of terrorism are coordinated with the Palestinian Authority.
Rather than condemning terrorism, Rajoub made it clear that the PA’s goal is to consolidate its control over the terrorism, to coordinate between the various terrorist factions in order ensure that all violence against Israel is conducted under the PA’s auspices. Such a move would consolidate power under the Ramallah government’s ruling faction, Fatah, which is also headed by Mahmoud Abbas.
Tamar Sikurel, a spokesperson for the Regavim non-governmental organization (NGO), issued a scathing reaction to Rajoub’s interview.
“Should we pretend to be shocked? Is there something surprising about the Palestinian Authority being exposed as the maestro holding the baton in the symphony of terrorism in Judea, Samaria and beyond?” Sikurel asked.
“Don’t be fooled: Internal power struggles between Fatah and other Palestinian factions aren’t about promoting cooperation or promoting a peaceful, negotiated resolution of the conflict with Israel. There’s one thing these terrorists agree on – the thing they have always and will always agree on: murdering as many Jews as possible,” Sikurel warned.
A report one year ago by Regavim,“Officers by Day, Terrorists by Night,” exposed the data on Palestinian Authority Security Force (PASF) members who were killed or arrested in the act of murdering Jews from 2020 to 2023.
A follow-up to that report was published at the end of 2024. The numbers, predictably, are disturbing:
In 2024 alone, 16 Palestinian Authority Security Force (PASF) officers were killed in the act of attacking Israelis. Four others were arrested during the same activities. Nine additional military funerals were held by the Palestinian Authority for 15 non-PASF terrorists.
“We call upon the Israeli government and the international community to recognize Rajoub’s comments for what they are: a Palestinian Authority policy directive rather than empty rhetoric,” said Regavim Director General Meir Deutsch.
“The Israeli government can no longer afford to perpetuate the fantasy that we have a partner for peace in the Palestinian Authority.
“Peace and cooperation are the last thing on the PA’s agenda. Security and sovereignty must be the first things on Israel’s agenda.”
