One of the structures served as a study hall, and those present were asked to vacate it in advance out of respect for the sanctity of the site.
The forces operating in the area were instructed to act with sensitivity and to safeguard the sacred items within the building.
Army Radio later reported that following the incident, settlers had torched some houses and vehicles in two villages near Nablus in the West Bank.

Also on Wednesday, Israeli media reported that Defense Minister Israel Katz had canceled a detention order against a Jewish individual in the West Bank.
In November, the defense minister announced he would end the use of administrative detention orders against Jews in the West Bank.
