Starbucks CEO Announces Plans to Improve Coffee Ordering Experience

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol wants to make it “easier for our customers to get a cup of coffee.” The comment came during a telephone call with investors on Wednesday. The company is seeing poor sales and was even forced to suspend its forecast for 2025.

In the 1990s Starbucks transformed the world of coffee for everyone, everywhere. At one point it seemed like there would be a branch of the store on every street corner as its expansion continued. Because of Starbucks. Numerous regional imitators and all manner of “Mom and Pop” coffee bars popped up.

But sooner or later people get bored with something popular. Many today feel that Starbucks does not offer high quality coffee and do not like the long lines at mid-day. And one of the problems today is that Starbucks offers too many fancy drinks, and they are not always available.

“I will go to four or five Starbucks in my local area and have the same experience. I check the app right before I go inside and it says it’s there, but when I arrive, the people working there say, ‘Oh, we don’t use or look at the app,’” Greg Tutunjian, a software consultant from Newton, Mass, told the New York Times. “I walk out empty-handed.”

Brian Niccol told investors about the situation they are facing, “Our financial results were very disappointing, and it is clear we need to fundamentally change our strategy to win back customers and return to growth.”

However, he also painted a bright picture for investors saying, “Our problems are fixable — most of what we need to do is within our control.”

Brian Niccol is an American businessman and the current chairman and CEO of Starbucks. He assumed this role on September 9, 2024, succeeding Laxman Narasimhan.
