The Brutalist and A Complete Unknown sweep 2025 Baftas nominations

With a number Jewish-led films topping the box office charts lately, it should come as no surprise that this week’s announcement of the Bafta nominations were studded Jewish stars.

The Brutalist and A Complete Unknown have both been nominated for Best Film, and their leading actors – both Jewish – have landed nominations for Leading Actor: Adrien Brody for his portrayal of Hungarian Jewish Holocaust survivor László Tóth and Timothee Chalamet for his turn as Bob Dylan.

Jewish director and screenwriter James Mangold is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for his biopic of the Like A Rolling Stone singer and The Brutalist director Brady Corbet, interviewed by the JC last month, is nominated for Best Director. Corbet, along with writer Mona Fastvold, is also up for for Best Original Screenplay for the film, which also picked up nominations for Best Original Score (Daniel Blumberg) and Outstanding Production Design (Judy Becker and Patricia Cuccia).

Mikey Madison, Jewish breakout star of Anora, is nominated for Leading Actress for her portrayal of a young sex worker from Brooklyn.

Felicity Jones is nominated for Supporting Actress for her role in The Brutalist, along with Guy Pearce for Supporting Actor.

A Complete Unknown’s Edward Norton and Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain co-star Kieran Culkin have also been nominated for Supporting Actor. Eisenberg himself is nominated for Best Original Screenplay the film, which was inspired by his own family’s Holocaust history.

Meanwhile, Jewish actress Jamie Lee Curtis is nominated for Supporting Actress for her role in The Last Showgirl.

For Best Documentary, Israeli-Palestinian film No Other Land is nominated. The film explores the relationship between Palestinians and Israelis through the alliance that develops between an activist and a journalist.

Jewish actor Jeff Goldblum, who starred in Wicked, will perform on the piano during the In Memoriam section of the awards ceremony, which will be hosted by David Tennant and take place on 16 February at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London.
