Despite its proclaimed allegiance to socialist principles, Arab Socialism in practice leaned heavily on populism, charismatic leadership, and militarism. With Assad’s fall, the Ba’ath ceased to exist as a governing body in the Arab world, but that may not be the last word. Op-ed.
