Passengers aboard a transatlantic flight from London to New York were left baffled when the in-flight safety video appeared with Hebrew subtitles instead of English.
The mix-up happened during the Sunday morning Virgin Atlantic flight VS003 from Heathrow to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Travellers were left scratching their heads as the animated safety demonstration played on their screens with Hebrew subtitles.
As the safety demonstration appeared on screens throughout the cabin, passengers quickly noticed the subtitles overlaying the video were in Hebrew rather than English.
“To be fair the whole video was very trippy without even the subtitles,” said one passenger, referencing the animated style of the quirky safety demonstration.
It remains unclear whether the mix-up was due to a technical error or human oversight.
Virgin Atlantic has been contacted for comment.
In 2018, the British airline founded by Sir Richard Branson appointed Jerusalem-born, former IDF tank commander Shai Weiss as chief executive officer.
Weiss – who describes himself as a secular Israeli but has British citizenship – has urged Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government to agree to a peace deal to end the war in Gaza.
Weiss joined the board of Virgin Atlantic in 2012 and was head of the company’s commercial and finance divisions before becoming chief executive in 2019.
Before Virgin, he worked at telecoms provider NTL Telewest and Morgan Stanley.
